We at ARD Fire install fire sprinkler systems.

The most common sprinkler system is the wet sprinkler system which comprises of a water supply either from the local authority town’s main water supply or with an independent water supply I.E with a water storage tank and fire pump or fire pumps, this would supply water to a sprinkler control valve station with motor alarm gong and distribution piping and an array of pipe work which would feed the sprinkler heads.

The sprinkler are laid out in accordance to the design specification and the building layout.

The sprinkler control valve station are usually monitored by a pressure switch or flow switch with will send a fire signal to either a local fire panel or to a main fire panel within the building, which in turn can a fire signal to Red Care or a company monitoring the fire alarms or the signal can go direct to the fire brigade.

The fire signal will operate either in the event of a fire or a false alarm or accidental operation of the fire system when the fire sprinkler head is either operated by fire or accidentally damaged.

Only the sprinkler heads in the area where the fire is or where the sprinkler or pipe work has been damaged will operate.

We at ARD Fire install fire pump houses.

Fire sprinkler pump house are installed when the local authority water supply is not adequate for the building or the specification of the sprinkler systems.

A fire pump house usual will comprise of a diesel fire pump and an electrical fire pump with a top up jockey pump and all the associated pipe work and equipment  test initiation boards and test flow equipment for  proving the duty of the fire pump on an annual basis when the fire pumps are due for service.

The fire pump or pumps will suck water from the designated fire pump and deliver water through the delivery pipe work to the sprinkler control valve stations and the array of sprinkler pipe work in the building giving the system the correct amount of water for the operation of the sprinkler in accordance with the design density.

Dry Rising Mains

The pipes in dry risers are empty and are only filled with water by firefighters when they arrive. Firefighters will connect the pump outlet in one of their appliances to the dry riser inlet. Water is then drawn from the nearest public fire hydrant, (fed by the water supplier’s service mains) and this is pressurised by the fire pump to provide water at the correct flow and pressure for firefighting operations at the relevant floor level. Dry risers are required in buildings which are between 18m and 50m high, and also low-level buildings where there are restrictions for firefighting operations.

Wet Rising Mains

A wet riser system is a system of pipework which is fully and permanently charged with its own dedicated water supply at all times and have pumps that deliver to water outlets for the fire brigade to connect directly to the wet landing valves usually located in the enclosed firefighting stair compartment area.
